About Us

Your guide to mortgages, wherever home is.

Buying a home is one of the biggest financial decisions most people ever make, yet mortgage information is often confusing, full of jargon and different from one country to the next. MortgageCompass was created to change that.

We publish clear, practical and independent guides to mortgages, home loans and real estate investing for readers in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. Whether you are buying your first home, comparing fixed and variable rates, thinking about refinancing or planning your first rental property, our goal is to help you understand your options before you speak to a lender.

What We Cover

  • Mortgage Basics: how mortgages work, affordability, credit scores, amortization, refinancing and choosing between fixed and variable rates.
  • US Mortgages: FHA, VA, USDA and conventional loans, current rates, lenders and first time buyer guides.
  • UK Mortgages: mortgage rates, remortgaging, fixed and tracker deals, and Stamp Duty.
  • Canada Mortgages: fixed and variable mortgages, rates and the mortgage stress test.
  • Australia Home Loans: home loan rates, borrowing power, first home buyer schemes, and fixed or variable loans.
  • Real Estate Investing: rental yield, cap rates, short term rentals and ways to start investing with less money.

We also build free tools, such as our Stamp Duty calculator, borrowing power calculator and short term rental profitability calculator, to help you run your own numbers.

Our Editorial Standards

We know that money decisions matter, so we follow a few simple rules for everything we publish:

We use reliable sources. Our guides rely on official and primary sources wherever possible, including Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, HUD, the US Department of Agriculture, the Federal Reserve, the Bank of England, HM Revenue & Customs, the Bank of Canada, the Reserve Bank of Australia and government consumer finance agencies, as well as respected industry research.

We check the numbers. Payment examples, amortization tables and calculator results are calculated and checked before publication. Examples are clearly labelled as illustrations.

We date and update our content. Every guide shows when it was last updated. Articles about rates, loan limits and government rules are reviewed regularly and after major changes, such as central bank decisions.

We stay balanced. We explain the pros and cons of every option, including the risks, and we never promise approval, returns or guaranteed savings.

We correct mistakes. If you spot an error or outdated information, please contact us and we will review it promptly.

How we create content. Our team uses research tools, including AI assisted drafting, to help gather and organize information. Every article is reviewed, fact checked against its sources and edited before it is published.

How We Make Money

MortgageCompass is free to read. We earn money through advertising, including ads served by Google AdSense. Advertisers do not influence our content, rankings or recommendations.

We are not paid by any lender or bank to be included in our guides or comparisons. If this changes in the future, for example through affiliate partnerships, we will clearly disclose it on the relevant pages.

What We Are Not

MortgageCompass is an independent educational website. We are not a lender, mortgage broker or financial adviser, and we do not arrange loans or collect loan applications. The information on this site is general in nature and does not take into account your personal objectives, financial situation or needs.

Mortgage rules, rates and products change often and vary by country and lender. Before making a financial decision, please confirm details with a licensed lender, mortgage broker or financial professional in your country.

Who We Are

MortgageCompass is run by a small independent team with a background in engineering and data analysis, and a strong interest in personal finance and real estate. We bring that analytical, numbers first approach to every guide: breaking complex topics into clear steps and showing the real figures behind each decision.

[Opcional: añade aquí una frase sobre el fundador si quieres dar la cara, por ejemplo: “MortgageCompass was founded in 2026 by Gerard, an engineer based in Barcelona, Spain, who wanted to create the clear, honest mortgage guide he could not find when researching the topic himself.”]
